The Birch Aquarium at Scripps was the final destination for the pre-conference Tuesday campus card program tour.

The San Diego Zoo is world-famous for a reason. The zoo is currently expecting a newborn panda, and is well-known not only for its range and variety of animals and creatures, but for its research and conservation programs. Sea World - Get splashed by Shamu the whale, hug a dolphin, watch penguins, talk with sea lions, and see some of the best shows and special attractions in San Diego. (5.0 miles from hotel) 

Gaslamp Quarter - Stroll through Victorian-style commercial buildings built between 1873 and 1930, while you browse fine art galleries, unique shops, and specialty stores. Sip coffee or tea at a sidewalk cafe illuminated by old-fashioned gaslamps. Belmont Park - If you enjoy roller coasters, the Giant Dipper at Belmont Park offers a panoramic view of the beach and waves - if you can keep your eyes open! When you're done riding, go again! Or, just enjoy the other rides, the shopping, and of course, the sand and surf. (8.6 miles from hotel)

Sports - Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres, is located only 2 miles from the hotel. Qualcomm Stadium is 8 miles from the hotel. Here are some events occurring around conference time.

Golf - It's tee time! San Diego's climate makes it the perfect location for over 90 golf courses. Balboa Park (5.7 mi) is the closest course to the hotel, and Riverwalk (8.0 mi), Coronado (8.3 mi),  Torrey Pines (17 mi), Eastlake Country Club (21 mi), and Auld Golf Course (22mi) are within driving distance. SEA AND SURF - If you are a water buff, there are lots of activities to try. You can parasail, learn to surf, go deep sea fishing, enjoy a relaxing dinner cruise, rent a jet ski or sailboat, kayak, or snorkel.


TRANSPORTATION

Free Airport Pickup - The Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina offers free shuttle service from the airport to the hotel.

Public Transportation - MTS buses, trolleys and coasters provide convenient transportation throughout San Diego County. Travel to and from the airport, all shopping centers, attractions, beaches, hotels and Mexico. Bus schedules differ, but most hotels and attractions have service every 15 to 20 minutes. The San Diego Trolley runs every 15 minutes throughout most of the day and every 30 minutes in the evening. The North County Coaster runs 43 miles along the coast with station stops in downtown San Diego, Old Town, Solana Beach, Encinitas, Carlsbad and Oceanside. You can also get a free trolley transfer which will take you to Tijuana. Taxi Service - Taxicab stands are located at the airport, most hotels, attractions and shopping centers. Your fare will be displayed on the meter and will include a flag drop charge plus a per-mile and/or a per-hour charge. All cabs leaving the airport charge the same rate. Rates for all other cab trips may vary from company to company. A company's rates of fare are posted on the outside and inside of every taxicab.

Flower Fields Ranunculus Tours
Every March and April, the Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch blossom into a spectacular sea of brightly colored ranunculus flowers. Visitors can view and tour the fields in Carlsbad.
