Director of HofstraCard Services

 

The Director of Hofstra Card Services is a key position within the Division of Student Affairs who, through a visionary and shared leadership approach, will manage the operations of a rapidly expanding card service operation.  Reporting through the Associate Dean of Students, this position is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the office, supervision of staff, oversight of all financial processes, including, but not limited to preparation of daily and monthly reconciliations related to deposits to the One Card system.  In addition, the director will monitor access processes related to card service operations, oversee the maintenance of equipment and servers that run the “One Card” system, manage the activation of university dining plans, and oversee service request and prioritization status for use of card service technology.

Essential duties include:

·         Develop and implement a strategic plan based on the integration of finance, technology, access, and services for campus card service operation.

·         Responsible for implementing, supporting and expanding the campus card program.

·         Document card based policies and procedures; ensure compliance; provide service, support, and reports for the management of the One Card system operations and using best practice strategies for a full-service card service operation.

·         Train other campus offices on applications, equipment, and uses of system.

·         Assess campus needs for the system and implement system uses.

·         Serve as contact with system provider.

·         Coordinate the maintenance, operation, and networking of all related equipment through associated vendors and other departments.

·         Administer access privileges, oversight of the safety and security processes in collaboration with the Department of Public Safety.

·         Ensure accurate and timely data-feeds of information from campus information systems.

·         Troubleshoot problems related to card-system data, card readers, cash registers, ID monitors, automated deposit machines and on-line services and department servers. 

·         Supervision of full and part-time administrators and student employees. 

·         Prepare daily and monthly reconciliation reports related to deposits (cash, credit card, etc.) to the OneCard System, Banner Information System, HofstraCard “Dutch” Debit accounts, and Dining Plan contracts.

·         Maintain the card operation data network and associated software updates.

·         Support the needs of campus departments utilizing card access.

·         Manage and participate in a 24/7 emergency on-call rotation which includes responding to the campus.

·         Networking with other campus departments, supporting campus events requiring card services, and managing/coordinating the installation of new access control equipment.

·         Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

·         Masters degree in Business, Information Technology or related field or a Bachelor’s degree and professional experience equivalent to an advanced degree in computer and/or electronics technical support and/or security systems, information systems, finance and/or banking and interpreting technical guidelines, policies and procedures.

·         Minimum three years of progressive responsibilities in a campus card program or office required.

·         Experience and familiarity with the following is required: unique concerns of higher education, working knowledge of campus card identification systems, knowledge of reconciliations and ability to manage a budget, including auditing internal controls, business analysis and solution design of complex systems and processes, thorough knowledge of program applications and software packages, strong computer background.

·         Ability to format data and knowledge of importing files.

·         Ability to evaluate and classify sensitivity of data.

·         Ability to define protection requirements for the data based on the sensitivity, legal or regulatory requirements, and business needs.

·         Ability to define requirements for access to the data.

·         Effective written and oral communication skills and show initiative in expanding a campus-wide program.

·         Must possess and demonstrate excellent customer service skills and the ability to work with a diverse constituency.

·         Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Familiarity with office software, photo editing software, and office equipment pertaining to campus card service functions.

·         Proficiency in Oracle Database, Excel, and familiarity with MS Access database systems.

·         Experience implementing, maintaining, and integrating complex computer systems and software applications.

·         Experience in higher education, writing SQL queries, and electronic ID and facility-access systems strongly preferred.

·         Experience using Heartland OneCard System.

·         Experience using and reporting from SunGard Banner system.

·         The ideal candidate will have a proficient understanding of the latest card technology and demonstrated leadership in the card service field.
