On-campus. Off-campus. Online.

The Blackboard Commerce Suite™ supports commerce and access transactions on campus, off campus and online.

For a campus to function at its peak, all types of transactions must be facilitated quickly, efficiently and securely. But until now, only disparate systems powered disconnected campus transaction systems.

The Blackboard Commerce Suite has all the functionality of traditional campus card offerings. After all, we’ve been implementing transaction systems for more than twenty years. But with its enterprise-wide approach, the Blackboard Commerce Suite is redefining student-to-institution and student-to-merchant interactions.

With the Blackboard Commerce Suite at the core of your campus card program, you will:

»    Securely process millions of transactions involving dollars, data, access and authentication with the Blackboard Transaction System™

»    Extend student use of the ID card into the community with BbOne

»    Forge new connections by providing community-building functionality and e-Commerce capabilities with the Blackboard Community System™

Imagine the advantages. Student information systems, POS systems, bookstore, parking, print management, library solutions, and more - all integrated with the most powerful enterprise campus solution available.

Hundreds of colleges and universities trust us to manage the flow of millions of financial and service transactions on and beyond campus boundaries. We invite you to join them in looking beyond the cafeteria cards of the past and explore the Blackboard Commerce Suite.

Overview
Founded in 1974, Minneapolis, Minnesota-based Fargo Electronics, Inc., is a global leader in the development of secure technologies for identity card issuance systems, including secure card printer/encoders, materials, software and systems.  With a 30+ year track record of success, Fargo posted revenues of $81 million in 2005.

In August, 2006, Fargo merged with a wholly owned subsidiary of ASSA ABLOY's HID Global Corporation. HID is a leading supplier and manufacturer in the access control industry, serving customers worldwide with proximity and contactless smart card technologies; central station managed access controllers; secure and custom card solutions; digital identity and photo card management software solutions; and electronic cylinders.

Customers and Applications
Fargo has sold more than 120,000 systems in the U.S. and over 80 other countries worldwide. Fargo card issuance systems reduce vulnerabilities and potential for loss of time, money and lives by continually improving the security of identity credentials.

Customers of Fargo card identity systems create personalized cards for a wide variety applications including:

  • Government:  national and military identification; employee identification; access control; driver's licenses; social services identification and stored value; inmate and corrections staff identification.

  • Corporate:  access control; time and attendance tracking; employee identification; parking passes; visitor management.

  • Education:  faculty and student identification, stored value for bookstores and cafeterias; library cards; dorm and equipment access.

  • Transportation:  bus and train passes; airport security; employee identification.

  • Trade and professional associations:  membership identification, loyalty and discount cards.

Technology
Fargo is the only manufacturer to offer three distinct printing technologies:  High
Definition Printing(reverse image) for high-level security and large applications especially when smart cards are used; Direct-to-Card (dye-sublimation), the most commonly used ID card technology for low- to mid-level security applications; and CardJet printing, a familiar inkjet technology for low-level security and entry-level applications.

Fargo's developmental approach allows easy integration of new technologies into existing systems, so that they function at the highest, most efficient level possible. It also invests significant resources in product development and now has 70 patents issued or approved, with 60 additional patent applications pending in the U.S.

Sales and Marketing
Fargo markets and sells products through a distribution channel of independent distributors and professional integrators dedicated to providing ongoing sales and service for Fargo systems in the identification and security industries.

Fargo's dual-brand strategy offers choice and value to customers across the range of ID security needs. At the entry level, Persona® by Fargo is a line of simple, reliable, affordable card printers for customers who need sharp, durable cards with a modest level of security and card technology. Persona printers are offered through a non-restrictive distribution program for the entry-level to mid-range ID card printer market.

For mid- to high-end enterprise and government applications where security is crucial, Fargo-branded Secure Printer/Encoders, Secure Materials and Secure Software are integrated into solutions including physical access, biometrics, multi-application software, logical access, time and attendance and more.

Company History
HID Corporation was formed in 1991 when Hughes Aircraft Company acquired the rights to RFID Technology from Destron. HID was incorporated as Hughes Identification Devices, a subsidiary of General Motors Hughes Electronics (GMHE), with Proximity Access Control readers and cards as the initial product offering.

ASSA ABLOY AB, the world’s leading manufacturer of locks, acquired HID in January, 2001. While the acquisition has not altered HID’s mission or management, integration into ASSA ABLOY’s US$2 billion global operation provides substantial benefits for customers worldwide. ASSA ABLOY gains the addition of HID’s leading RFID technology to its advanced technology lock products, while HID benefits from ASSA ABLOY’s substantial capital resources and extensive global presence.

Products/Services:
As the largest manufacturer of contactless access control readers and cards for the security industry, HID has shipped over 150 million credentials to customers worldwide. HID pioneered the development of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology for physical access control.  Proximity and iCLASS technologies can be housed on the same credential and combined with other technologies such as magnetic stripe, barcode, or contact smart chip modules.  This provides users the ability to leverage their investment in existing systems while seamlessly upgrading to new technologies and adding new applications.  For increased security, users can add a photo ID or anti-counterfeiting element such as a hologram or ultraviolet ink. HID’s experience in developing card technologies enables them to play a critical role in the evolution and adoption of contactless smart card technology used for applications such as access control, IT secure authentication, digital cash, the storage of biometric templates, and the storage and retrieval of critical information.

HID’s iCLASS is a new 13.56 MHz contactless read/write smart card technology optimized for physical access control, IT secure authentication and other applications. iCLASS smart cards and readers make access control more powerful, more versatile, and most importantly, offer enhanced security through encryption and mutual authentication.

Off Campus Solutions LLC.  is the leader in customizing, building, and operating successful off campus programs.  We provide a turnkey, fully outsourced solution that expands the student experience to include off campus merchants.  We work with your team to build a program that’s tailored for your school and your students.  Best of all, the program costs nothing to start and has no ongoing management fees.

Previously, making the move off campus required a substantial capital outlay with years of negative returns.  Doing a program in-house takes a lot of time, people and money – three resources that seem scarce today in higher education.   In fact, most of the self-op programs in the country surveyed said if they could do it over again, they’d outsource the entire function.  It’s just not cost effective any other way.

The PERSONA™ High-Security Lockset is an off-line, intelligent stand-alone, electronic locking system, utilizing magnetic stripe and Pin code technologies for customized individual access to facilities. The PERSONA™ locks were the first electronic locks designed specifically for educational facilities. These unique dual system locks were designed to solve a problem inherent with typical keycard systems. Magstripe technology allows student/faculty ID cards to double as keycards for the locks. These cards usually include a name and/or photo, so the card can easily be associated with a housing facility, classroom or office. This creates a security concern whenever cards are lost or stolen.  Although we offer three modes of entry, PERSONA solves this safety issue with our most secure option of utilizing a pin code as well as the card swipe, therefore rendering the card useless without the corresponding PIN code needed to complete the unlocking process.

PERSONA's user-friendly software is Windows based and can be easily integrated with most student/faculty databases. It can be customized for each individual school and is flexible and expandable. The software can be used at one workstation or networked to several, allowing keycards to be encoded at multiple locations.

PERSONA also offers an advanced audit trail capability which allows administrators to determine when, where and by whom access was requested, and whether or not it was granted. It also details lock events, such as door position, deadbolt use and use of the mechanical override, providing a clear picture of the events at the door at any given time. It’s the truly the most secure and cost-effective way to protect your students, faculty and staff.

PERSONA™ is a division of ASSA ABLOY, the world's largest lock company consortium. For more information, call (800) 481-8464 or visit us on the web at www.personacampus.com
