UNT TO UPGRADE CAMPUS CARD PROGRAM WITH WELLS FARGO

DENTON, DATE, 2006 – Wells Fargo and University of North Texas have agreed to upgrade the Mean Green Card campus card program for students, faculty and staff to provide additional convenience and purchasing power for cardholders.   Effective July 2006, Wells Fargo and UNT will introduce the Mean Green Check Card, a Visa® debit card issued by Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., which will provide access for ATM, debit and point-of-sale transactions (POS) wherever Visa debit cards are accepted.

Since its launch in 2003, the Mean Green Card has offered ATM and POS purchase capability for cardholders using Personal Identification Numbers (PINs).  The upgraded check card may be used at ATMs, and wherever Visa debit cards are accepted for signature-based transactions and online purchases.  It also will be an official campus ID card, providing access to the library, select campus buildings, entry to university events and programs and more.  Students, faculty and staff members who have the new card also are eligible for the Wells Fargo Rewards® program.

The Mean Green Check Card will be the first Campus Check Card Wells Fargo will offer in its campus card programs throughout Texas. Most of Wells Fargo’s 12 Campus Card programs in the state are ATM/PIN-based card programs.

"We are pleased to have the opportunity to upgrade our campus card program at University of North Texas," said Scott Wallace, Wells Fargo Community Banking president for Denton/North Dallas. “The additional benefits of the new card, along with our store presence on campus and the diverse financial services Wells Fargo provides, will serve the students, faculty and staff well and help them succeed financially.”

“UNT students asked for one-card campus service a few years ago, and with Wells Fargo we were able to implement the Mean Green Card in 2003,” said Joey Saxon, director of Student Accounting.  “With the recent re-branding strategy implemented at UNT, we wanted to take the opportunity to provide additional services and capabilities through Wells Fargo’s upgraded Check Card program.  With this new program, UNT looks forward to working with Wells Fargo to offer this unique opportunity and service to our community.”

Wells Fargo offers cardholders a broad range of financial products and services at no cost – including free checking and online banking, including free Bill Pay.  Wells Fargo recently was recognized as best-in-class overall for its online banking and customer-centric focus by GomezPro, which publishes a biannual scorecard for consumer financial services Web sites.

Wells Fargo also will offer a wide range of programs especially developed for students – including Wells Fargo College Checking®, College Visa Credit Card, student loans, student insurance, financial education workshops and the Wells Fargo® Hands on Banking® financial literacy program available in English and Spanish at www.handsonbanking.org.
