PNC Bank Takes Educating Campuses One Step Further

PNC Bank has been a leader in providing consumer banking education to college students for several years, and this fall it has added a new element: identify theft.

PNC, which partners with 14 schools in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Kentucky, offers more than 20 separate classes on campuses, without cost to the colleges. Each class or seminar is tailored to the needs of the host institution and taught by trained PNC employees, and is open to any or all University participants whether they are PNC customers or that of another bank.

Many students who leave home and handle their own money for the first time lack the fundamentals on establishing and protecting their credit, monitoring their credit score and avoiding ID theft, according to Nick Certo, senior vice president, Workplace and University Banking at PNC.

Some of the topics covered in the classes include Banking 101, Credit 101 and now Identity Theft, in response to a growing threat on college campuses nationally. PNC is even partnering with Penn State University and several other universities to provide a flyer on identity theft that will go to every freshman on campus.

According to Certo, educating college students on being good banking consumers, whether they are PNC customers or not, is simply good corporate responsibility as well as good business.

This is just one more benefit of having a partnership with PNC's University Banking program, which includes products and services specifically designed for students, faculty, and staff, ID card linking, co-branded check cards and revenue opportunities.
