Vanderbilt University and the University at Albany recognized for technological innovation and service to CS Gold user community

Ithaca, NY: The CBORD Group recently honored Vanderbilt University and the University at Albany at the annual CBORD® Campus Systems User Group (CCSUG) conference, attended by users of the CS Gold® and CS Housing® products.
Vanderbilt University received CBORD’s Visionary Award, presented each year to a school that creates notably innovative uses of its CBORD systems and integrated technology. CBORD chose Vanderbilt for its significant investment in promoting campus safety—the university has put together an elaborate, centrally-managed security system consisting of wireless and wired access control technology, more than 400 closed-circuit cameras, a fully-integrated digital video recording system, and a campus card program that communicates with all of the other systems to closely monitor activities across campus. Furthermore, Vanderbilt was one of the first CS Gold campuses to integrate the system with CBORD’s Webfood® online ordering product, allowing its students to conveniently order meals online and via custom-designed kiosks, processing payment with their campus card funds. Past recipients of this award include North Carolina A&T State University, the University of Vermont, and the University of Texas at Arlington.
“Vanderbilt is honored to receive this award,” says Frank X. Gladu, Assistant Vice-Chancellor for Business Services. “I believe the success of these projects is due almost exclusively to the close collaboration between the Housing, Dining, and Commodore Card Office staffs, and to the support we receive from CBORD.”
University Auxiliary Services at Albany, Inc. received the first annual Above and Beyond Award in recognition of the work completed by key employees to promote the interests of CBORD user communities. Albany professionals not only run a substantial campus card operation, they also host the CS Gold and CS Housing user listservs, serve on the CCSUG user board, and frequently serve as beta site for new products released by CBORD. The University at Albany is also a past recipient of CBORD’s Visionary Award.
"It never occurred to us that our involvement in the user community was anything special or worthy of notice. We do what we do simply because we believe it's the right thing to do,” says Brian McCarthy, Systems Administrator in the SUNYCard Office at the University at Albany. “Our expectations for the user community (and the vendor, for that matter) are high, but before we can hold anyone else to those standards, we, too, must meet them. Regardless, the award was deeply appreciated."
“The CS Gold users at Vanderbilt and Albany exemplify the ideals behind these awards every day, and we are pleased to honor them,” says Randy Eckels, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for The CBORD Group, Inc. “They understand the value that CS Housing and CS Gold provide, and put forth the effort needed not only to ensure their own success, but also to ensure the success of their fellow users. Their creativity, hard work, and can-do attitudes keep their operations on the cutting-edge of industry trends, and we are fortunate to work with them.”
