University of Virginia Protects Students and Prepares for the Future with CS Gold and the AD-Series

Ithaca, New York—The CBORD Group, Inc., the leading provider of campus card and integrated security solutions to colleges and universities, is pleased to announce that the University of Virginia (Charlottesville, VA) is improving campus safety and preparedness for the future by implementing the AD-Series electronic locking system from CBORD® partner Ingersoll Rand®. Fully integrated with CBORD’s CS Gold® campus card system (already in place at the school), AD-400 readers are now installed in the university’s residence halls to control access using two credentials: card swipe and PIN entry.

The AD-400 wireless online reader was selected for its sturdy nature, compliance with ANSI standards, and real-time remote management capabilities. The modular nature of the AD-Series makes it easy to change credentials as needed without removing the lock from the door. Furthermore, the AD-400’s “wake up on radio” feature enables quick and efficient remote lockdowns, vastly improving security during an emergency.

The University of Virginia uses CS Gold to manage access control, privileges, and purchasing for its more than 20,000 cardholders, and recently upgraded its system to the latest version. Version 6 offers a variety of benefits including

  • Email or text notifications to cardholders for important alerts and marketing messages.
  • Support for Oracle® 11g, Windows® 2008, and 64-bit technology.
  • New search feature, improving navigation and accessibility.
  • IT security enhancements, greatly reducing chances of costly system compromises.
  • And much more.

“Upgrading to CS Gold version 6 enables us to better serve our customers while enhancing our data security, and the AD-Series electronic locks are valuable additions to our implementation,” said Gary Conley, Facilities and Systems Engineer, University of Virginia. “Our system is more secure than before and we are poised to take advantage of new products and features.”

“From classrooms to sports complexes, labs, residence halls, common areas, and beyond, the new AD-Series from Schlage security platform was designed with the understanding that no two campuses, or their security applications, are the same,” said Beverly Vigue, Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies, Vice President, Education Markets. “While protecting people in its facilities is a university’s most important security priority, CBORD’s solutions for campus ID systems in conjunction with the AD-Series electronic locks also protect its access control investment. The modular design of the new AD-Series security platform makes it easy to add more locks or upgrade credentials, networking options, or software without replacing the locks. In the future, such upgrades can be as easy as changing a module from a mag to a smart card.”

“CS Gold is a recognized leader in the campus card industry, and its tight integration with the AD-Series combines cutting-edge security with efficient system management,” said Cindy McCall, Vice President, Marketing, The CBORD Group, Inc. “We are pleased to see the University of Virginia realizing the benefits of our valuable partnership with Ingersoll Rand and the powerful dividends created by our integrated campus solutions.”
