NACAS Announces
Certification Program for
Auxiliary Services
Professionals
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (July 5,
2011) –NACAS
is implementing a new
certification for industry
professionals: Certified
Auxiliary Services
Professional, deemed “CASP.”
Designed by experts in the
field of auxiliary services,
certification, and test
development, alongside NACAS
members, the CASP
Certification program
defines criteria and attests
that individuals have met a
high standard of excellence
as auxiliary services
professionals and met those
competencies which, in the
eyes of their peers, are
necessary to perform the
functions normally
accomplished by a Director
of Auxiliary Services.
The CASP designation will be
awarded upon successful
completion of the
certification requirements,
including education and
experience, and will be
assessed through a rigorous
and independent peer review
process. This includes an
exam that measures and
validates the effectiveness,
skill sets and knowledge of
the auxiliary services
professional.
Information about CASP
eligibility and the exam may
be found online at
www.nacas.org/certification.
“There is no single
professional degree or
program that prepares
individuals to become
auxiliary services
managers,” said Dr. Bob
Hassmiller, CEO of NACAS.
“Through CASP Certification,
aspiring and seasoned
professionals now have a
means to develop and
demonstrate their knowledge
and core competencies and
provide career development
guidance to individuals
preparing for more senior
responsibilities.”
Offered initially as a paper
and pencil exam at the 2011
NACAS Annual Conference, the
CASP exam will soon be
offered at testing centers
across the United States and
Canada. In development of
the program, NACAS has
adhered to the highest
standards of accreditation
and will take the next step
to attain American National
Standards Institute (ANSI)
accreditation standards,
including its conformity
with international ISO/IEC
standards.
“Program content, updates
and assessment of core
competencies will be
reviewed regularly,” stated
Dr. Hassmiller.
A continuing review of the
program will incorporate
representatives of sister
auxiliary/ancillary
associations and higher
education, and will be
administered by the NACAS
Certification Commission.
"With no collegiate academic
program or degree in the
management of auxiliary
services, the CASP
designation, in addition to
successful collegiate
auxiliary services work
experience, will help
validate the skills a
candidate can bring to an
auxiliary services
management position in
colleges and universities,”
stated Bill Ballard, a
member of the NACAS
Professional Development
Committee and Associate Vice
President of the University
of Vermont.
