Regional Events Focus on
Card Industry Innovation
PRINCETON JUNCTION, NJ –

Continuing to meet the
educational and networking
needs of its members, the
International Card
Manufacturers Association
(ICMA) announced its annual
Regional Events. ICMA’s
EuroForum will be held
October 12-13, 2011 at the
Le Meridien Munich in
Munich, Germany and its
North American Academy
Workshop will be held
October 26-27, 2011 at the
InterContinental Chicago
O’Hare in Rosemont
(Chicago), Illinois, USA.
New this year, ICMA is
holding a one-day Technology
Summit on October 25, 2011
in conjunction with its
North American Academy
Workshop designed for anyone
involved in implementing new
technology for their
companies.
The EuroForum will focus
specifically on Europe’s
card industry needs,
opportunities and trends
while exploring regional
strategies and solutions for
growing business.
Thorsten Roeske,
head of innovation and
alliances at Giesecke and
Devrient, will deliver the
event’s keynote speech
entitled, “The Evolution of
Smart Card Technology in a
Mobile World,” which will
discuss the evolution of
smart card technology and
the rise of new security
threats. Other sessions will
focus on such topics as
lamination, EMV, coating
solutions, card quality
management and printing. The
EuroForum will be chaired by
Rolf Christ of Klöckner
Pentaplast.
Speakers will discuss
visioning for the future and
how new technology will
change the way those in the
card industry do business
during ICMA’s first-ever
Technology Summit.
Zack Martin,
Editor at AVISIAN
Publications, will deliver
the keynote speech entitled,
“Emerging Technologies You
Can’t Ignore,” where he will
discuss how he believes the
time is now to start
planning for a possibly
cardless world. Other
session topics include
fluorescent nanophosphors,
ID documents, card issuance
and panel discussions on EMV
and NFC. The Technology
Summit will be chaired by
Barry Mosteller of CPI Card
Group.
At the North American
Academy Workshop, attendees
will have the opportunity to
discuss the most important
challenges and opportunities
facing the North American
card industry. The event
will feature presentations
on topics such as battery
powered cards, security,
mobile payments and green
practices in the card
industry. Karen Henk of
Versatile Card Technology
will chair this event.

The members only Workshop
and EuroForum are suitable
for card manufacturing
professionals from around
the world including
personalizers, issuers, card
manufacturers and other
industry stakeholders. As in
previous years, the events
will feature table top
displays, which allow
suppliers to gain exposure
to potential clients, as
they can feature company
product literature,
materials and other
information. The Technology
Summit is open to all card
manufacturing professionals.
The sessions will also
include a networking dinner,
enabling members to interact
with each other and exchange
ideas.
