Arizona State's Witenhafer Appointed to NACCU Board of Directors

Dale Witenhafer, Campus Card Manager at Arizona State University, has been appointed as a ninth member to the National Association of Campus Card Users’ Board of Directors.

In March, 2004, NACCU will lose three board members due to term expiration therefore the early appointment of Witenhafer was a necessary move, according to board chair Cindy Vetter.

“Although we have a terrific group of five that will remain on the board, for consistency and smooth transition, we have determined that an early appointment of a ninth member is important to the continued success of NACCU,” said Vetter. “For years the NACCU Board of Directors consisted of nine members but was later on reduced to eight in order to control expenses.”

Vetter said next March NACCU will revert back to eight members and continue its cost controlling efforts. Witenhafer’s term will also expire that month where he will have the option to pursue an open board position.

“Since I've been a NACCU member since the beginning it's about time I give something back,” said Witenhafer. “This organization has been an enormous help to me over the years and I'm glad I'll have a chance to contribute.”

Witenhafer has held his current position at ASU for the past five years. He started the Sun Devils’ card program from scratch in 1997, an effort which included carding 60,000 students and employees, opening and staffing the card office, moving existing meal plans to a new, one-card platform, establishing a new ‘flexible spending’ debit account for use on and off campus, and building a door access system. He is responsible for all aspects of the card program, including marketing, budgeting, office management and merchant relationships. ASU currently has over 300 on-line card readers, more than 30 off-campus locations, and the card system processes about $9 million worth of financial transactions each year.

Witenhafer is a charter member of NACCU and has attended every annual conference since. He is also a frequent presenter at the Blackboard Inc. Annual User’s Conference (CUCON).

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Accounting from the University of Akron and an MBA from Texas A&M University.
