Datacard Offers New Proximity Card Features For Card Printers And Identity Software

Datacard Group introduced inline proximity card reading capabilities for its Select and Magna Platinum Series desktop card printers at the ASIS 48
th Annual Seminar and Exhibit in Philadelphia. This new optional feature will allow Datacard printers to read facility codes and identification numbers stored on proximity cards while photos, text and other identify elements are being printed on the cards. A new, low-cost plug-in for Datacard ID Works identify software then allows that information to be stored in a central identify database along with photos and demographic data for individual cardholders.

Currently, most organizations looking to build a single database either enter facility codes and identification numbers manually or they create customized applications to handle the job. "Our new capabilities will make the process simpler, more affordable and more secure," said Martin Kearsley, senior vice president and general manager of Datacard’s solutions division.

"Creating a single identity database makes it easier to issue replacement cards or validate the identity and privileges of a particular cardholder," Kearsley said. "This is an important breakthrough for corporations, government agencies, universities and other organizations that use proximity cards for access control or time-and-attendance systems."

The printers and plug-in options are compatible with most industry-standard proximity systems, including ISOProx, DuoProx, and SmartProx, and other HID-compatible 26- and 37-bit systems. "We worked closely with RF Ideas to develop these new capabilities and ensure broad compatibility with the most popular proximity systems," Kearsley said.

"This provides security-minded organizations with a truly integrated enrollment and proximity card personalization solution from a proven market leader in identity solutions," Kearsley said.
