Wayne
State University Wins Visionary Award
The
Visionary Award, presented annually at the DCSUG Conference, is Diebold’s way
of recognizing customers who have seen expanded uses for a product and have
helped develop the product to meet that vision. This year’s Visionary Award winner was a little different.
This year’s award was presented to a university that developed a vision
of how its card system could be
used as part of an overall plan to not only enhance its campus, but also to
revitalize its own local community.
Wayne
State University, located in Detroit, Michigan, received the 2000 Visionary
Award for using card system automation as an empowerment strategy to revitalize
the school. An urban university
with 15 schools and colleges, Wayne State recognized its importance as a
community member, particularly in one of its downtown locations that has
deteriorated over the past few years. The college is working in conjunction with
other businesses to improve and invest in the area.
Wayne
State has an extensive card system, which includes more than 50,000 issued
cards. The CS Gold-based system
includes stored value, entitlement and access control applications that are used
heavily throughout the campus. They
also have achieved a number of Card System “firsts”, including:
·
First
university to install CS Value Terminals
·
First
Missouri Book Store interface to CS Gold
·
First
UniPrint interface to CS Gold
·
Plans to
implement WebLink, a Web-based value transfer program
Accepting
the award on behalf of Wayne State University was Tim Bemos, director of One
Card office, Wayne State University. Wayne
State University went on-line with their card system in November, 1999.
