Standards and Self-Assessment Guidelines (SAGS)

The purpose of the NACCU Standards and Guidelines (SAGs) is to provide a tool for a comprehensive review for Campus Card programs.

The results of this assessment can be used to guide strategic plans, identify opportunities and strengths, and to identify weaknesses and areas that need development in Campus Card programs.

This assessment tool allows for a consistent process which can be replicated to ensure that the assessment cycle continues.

CAS (Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS)

As with most higher education associations, NACCU is aware of the critical need for standards within the profession. Our members are seeing the value of a detailed assessment program and are beginning to understand their impact on campus learning. The Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) has been the gold standard for assessment and evaluation on campus and has served as the backbone on which we base excellence in higher education. The creation and inclusion of standards for Campus Credential Programs and Services as a functional area will highlight the importance of the campus credential as a service that spans campuses and impacts all who are students, faculty or staff on campus.

About NACCU and CAS

Earning this distinction has been a complex and demanding process. CAS requires rigorous but fair demonstrations of an organization’s commitment to professional standards and their application. It was noted with appreciation that NACCU already has a culture of assessment within the organization due to the internal Standards and Self-Assessment Guidelines (SAGs) program developed over the years.

Inclusion in the CAS portfolio will allow NACCU members to compare their operations to established industry standards to help garner resources, institutional recognition and provide high levels of service to their students and campuses.

The CAS standards committee was chaired by Dan Bureau, Louisiana State University. CAS partnered closely with the National Association of Campus Card Users (NACCU). The expert representing NACCU was Laurie Harris, Duke University.

Bureau and Harris were joined by additional professionals who provided invaluable feedback on both the standards and contextual statement.
