NACCU New Corporate Highlight: J. O'Brien Company
NACCU New Member Highlight:
J. O'Brien Company

In this latest installment of our New Member Highlight, we catch up with Tony Mowatt with new NACCU member J. O'Brien Company.
Give us a brief history of your company.
J. O’Brien Company is a woman-owned small business based in Springfield, New Jersey, celebrating 40 years in business. What began as a small heat sealing production facility has grown into a provider of identification, credentialing, and security solutions for organizations across the country and internationally. Throughout that growth, we’ve maintained a personal approach to service, building relationships with customers and supporting them long after the initial purchase.
What does your company do?
We help organizations identify people, manage access, and create safer environments. Our work spans ID card printing, credential management, access control, visitor management, custom identification products, and identification and biometric scanning. We are also the North American distributor for Thales identification and biometric scanners.
That breadth allows us to serve as a one-stop shop for many institutions, bringing together products, technical expertise, and ongoing support. Customers have a dedicated representative who understands their organization and a technical team they can turn to for installation, training, troubleshooting, and repair.
What products and services do you provide specifically to campus card operations?
We support campus card teams with ID card printers, printing supplies, blank and technology cards, card issuance software, identification and biometric scanners, and accessories such as custom lanyards, badge holders, and reels. Our technical team provides printer installation, maintenance, and repair, along with software deployment and staff training.
A particular strength is helping institutions transition from older card technologies to more secure credentials. We work with campus card, security, and IT teams to evaluate their existing environment, select appropriate card technology, and plan the transition around the systems and applications those credentials need to support.
Whether a campus is preparing for orientation, replacing an aging printer, or upgrading credentials across multiple facilities, we bring the products and expertise together to support the project from planning through ongoing operation.
Is there a new product or service you want to tell us about?
One service we’d like to highlight is 360° ID, our mass rebadging service, which helps organizations manage large-scale ID badge production. For campuses planning a card redesign, credential upgrade, or institution-wide replacement, it offers additional production support without placing the entire workload on the campus card office.
Combined with our experience in secure card technology transitions, this service helps institutions address both the technical planning and the practical demands of issuing replacement credentials.
What are you hoping to gain from your NACCU membership?
We’re looking forward to getting to know the people behind campus card programs and learning directly from their experiences. Understanding the day-to-day challenges, priorities, and changes facing campus card offices helps us become a better partner.
We also hope to contribute our technical knowledge and service experience, build lasting relationships with institutions and fellow corporate members, and take an active role in the NACCU community.
