Your NACCU Volunteers,

Meet Your NACCU Volunteers: Fran Craig

This is the latest installment of the NACCU series highlighting our association volunteers. NACCU provides programs and services to our members, many which would not be possible without the dedication and commitment of our volunteer leaders. Volunteers, whether they are a committee member, a Board member, or an onsite volunteer at a conference, are all important in making NACCU volunteer-driven programs an exceptional experience for our card industry peers.

Campus Card Information:
Name: Fran Craig
School: Carleton University, Ottawa, Ontario, CN
Volunteer Role: Membership Committee

What is your role at your institution?

I am the Campus Card/Information Carleton Coordinator at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, and oversee the daily operations of our unit which serves as a central information and service centre providing assistance to both the campus community and the general public. I supervise a talented staff of student customer service representatives and am responsible for the issuance of all campus identification cards and transit passes to our students, faculty, alumni, and affiliates.

Where was the first NACCU conference you attended?

My first NACCU conference was Hartford in 2019. As a novice in the campus card industry, I took advantage of the New Professionals Institute on Sunday prior to the conference which helped ensure a successful experience. I want to send a shout-out to my mentor at the Hartford conference - Pamela Hoover, the Director of Campus Card Operations at Southeastern Louisiana University - for her friendship and guidance. I received the best welcome from NACCU staff and volunteers, and thoroughly enjoyed the conference.

What is your favo(u)rite thing about volunteering with your NACCU committee?

My favourite thing about being a volunteer is the opportunity to meet and collaborate with campus card professionals from Canada and the US. I have found that NACCU is made up of dedicated professionals who are generous in sharing their knowledge and expertise. Through our work on the Membership Committee, I hope to contribute to the growth of this organization.

What show are you binge-watching right now?

I am binge-watching a lot of British shows lately including The Crown, Merlin, and Call the Midwife. I love stories with well-developed characters and plot lines.

What is your go-to coffee / tea order?

My go-to coffee is a simple dark roast with cream. Coffee is my Go Juice!!!

What is your favo(u)rite memory from when you were a student?

My favourite memory as a student was the daily post-class meet-ups with friends at the campus coffee house, "Roosters". It was my reward for long days of lectures and studying.

What is one thing that would surprise people about you?

Most people would be surprised to find out that I was very shy growing up. My goal to become a fitness/personal training instructor helped me to come out of my shell, and I have never looked back. My entire career has been customer focused.

What are you most excited for at NACCU in Austin?

I look forward to seeing everyone from NACCU Hartford and Ottawa 2019 at NACCU 2020, and meeting some new friends along the way. I heard Austin is a happening place for live music and hospitality. My cowboy boots are packed and ready to go.
