NACCU New Member Highlight:
RightCrowd

In this latest installment of our New Member Highlight, we catch up with Jason Bohrer, CEO with new NACCU member RightCrowd.
Talk about the history of your company.
RightCrowd has been shaping the future of physical access and identity management for more than 20 years. We began with a simple idea: organizations should always know who is in their buildings, why they’re there, and what access they should have without relying on manual processes or multiple, disconnected systems. That idea led us to pioneer a category now known as Physical Identity & Access Management (PIAM), which simply means:
making sure the right people have the right access at the right time, across every door, facility, and campus environment.
Over two decades, RightCrowd has grown into the global leader supporting Fortune 50 companies, critical technology and infrastructure providers, and major universities. Our work with the world’s most complex environments has shaped a platform trusted for security, compliance, and reliability, and now, we’re excited to bring that experience to the NACCU community.
What does your company do?
RightCrowd helps organizations unify identity, access, and physical security workflows to manage who is granted what, when, where, and why. The RightCrowd SmartAccess platform consolidates multiple physical access control systems (PACS), visitor and contractor flows, mobile credentials, audit trails, and emergency-response processes, all within a single, integrated solution. We enable institutions to move past fragmented systems and manual processes toward an access-management foundation that supports operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and a modern user experience.
What products and services do you provide specifically to campus card operations?
RightCrowd SmartAccess supports campus card operations by delivering:
- Unified identity lifecycle management for students, faculty, staff, contractors, and guests, especially helpful for handling dual-roles, enrollment changes, temporary access, and high turnover.
- Mobile credential management that complements or replaces physical cards while aligning with student expectations for smartphone-based access.
- Enterprise-grade visitor management for events, orientations, front-desk check-ins, and high-volume guest traffic, including kiosks and QR-based workflows.
- Real-time reporting and compliance oversight across all identity types, giving card offices, campus safety, and administration clear, unified insight into who accessed what and when.
- Integration services that help tie card operations into broader campus systems rather than leaving them siloed.
In short, RightCrowd SmartAccess enhances the traditional card-office mission by connecting identity, credentials, access governance, and visitor flows into a single campus-wide governance framework.
Is there a new product or service you want to tell us about?
We’re excited to highlight several advancements that align strongly with the future of campus credentials and campus card operations:
- Mobile Credential / NFC Wallet Support (Apple Wallet, Google Wallet, Samsung Wallet): RightCrowd SmartAccess supports secure, smartphone-based credentials across every major mobile wallet ecosystem and delivers both NFC and BLE-based access workflows, making it easier for campuses to transition from physical cards while giving students a modern, flexible credential experience.
- AI-Driven Access Analytics: Built-in analytics and machine-learning insights help detect unusual access patterns, identify credential misuse, and flag policy gaps, giving campuses proactive security intelligence.
- Higher-Education-Tailored Workflows: We’ve adapted the platform to address the complexity of open campuses, multi-facility environments, large events, and student turnover, making it easier for card offices to manage access at scale.
What are you hoping to gain from your NACCU membership?
Through NACCU, we hope to connect with and support the campus card community, share insights from large-scale deployments, and learn from the practical challenges card offices navigate every day. We look forward to:
- Collaborating with campus card professionals and exchanging best practices.
- Contributing expertise in identity lifecycle management, mobile credentialing, and physical access governance.
- Understanding campus-specific needs to refine our higher-education roadmap.
- Raising awareness of how card offices can evolve from credential issuance to broader identity and access governance leadership across the institution.
We’re excited to be part of NACCU and look forward to partnering with the community to help modernize campus access and strengthen safety, experience, and operational efficiency.
