Meet your NACCU Volunteers: Susan Hornung

Your NACCU Volunteers,

Meet Your NACCU Volunteers
Susan Hornung

This is the latest installment of the NACCU series highlighting our association volunteers. NACCU provides programs and services to our members, many which would not be possible without the dedication and commitment of our volunteer leaders. Volunteers, whether they are a committee member, a Board member, or an onsite volunteer at a conference, are all important in making NACCU volunteer-driven programs an exceptional experience for our card industry peers.

What is your role at your institution?

I am the Assistant Director of the Campus Center, which includes oversight of the building, the Information Desk, and the Pioneer Card Office.

Where was the first NACCU conference you attended?

I tried to attend my first conference in 2020 - it didn't work out for obvious reasons. So I guess that makes the 2021 virtual conference my first! I am attending this year in person, and I am really looking forward to it.

What is your favo(u)rite thing about volunteering with your NACCU committee?

Out of the blue, amazing gems of knowledge and inspiration pop out of their mouths during our meetings. They don't even realize what an impact their words have. Countless times I've jotted down quick notes and then made high-impact changes here at Carroll. Volunteering is a great way to grow you, your card office, and your institution..

What show are you binge-watching right now?

My husband gave me a subscription to Britbox for my birthday. I love British TV - do I have to name just one? I'm flipflopping through multiple shows right now: Dirk Gently, Agatha Raisin, Moone Boy...

What is your go-to coffee or tea order?

My go-to every morning is Frontier Co-op's Organic Ceylon Tea - High Grown Orange Pekoe with a splash of milk and a touch of sugar. I know, very specific!

What is your favo(u)rite memory from when you were a student?

I grew up outside of a city, so while attending Marquette University - in the heart of downtown Milwaukee - I loved watching the snow come down outside my dorm window at night, glittering in all the bright city lights.

What is one thing that would surprise people about you?

I am a certified aquatic fitness instructor and have taught every type of class imaginable over the past 15 years.

What is the phone app that you use the most?

Reuters is my quick news fix every day. I appreciate the objective, timely articles on a variety of subjects.
