NACCU & CAS: Standards for Campus Credential Programs and Services

NACCU News,
NACCU & CAS: Standards for Campus Credential Programs and Services

The standards for NACCU Campus Credential Programs and services were approved by the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) in July 2022, and we are excited to announce that these standards have been released and are available for download.

As with most higher education associations, NACCU is aware of the critical need for standards within the profession. Back in 2007, a thoughtful group of volunteers began development of standards for our niche profession. This project grew and evolved, and today, NACCU provides a small cohort of campuses the opportunity to participate in a virtual seminar to gain guidance from a small number of faculty that have completed the assessment utilizing our outlined standards. Our members are seeing the value of a detailed assessment program and are beginning to understand their impact on campus learning.

CAS has been the gold standard for assessment and evaluation on campus and has served as the backbone on which we base excellence in higher education. While NACCU staff and volunteers have worked on standards and guidelines, we also understand the value in having a supportive community through which to develop a stronger set of assessment guidelines. The creation and inclusion of standards for Campus Credential Programs and Services as a functional area will highlight the importance of the campus credential as a service that spans campuses and impacts all who are students, faculty or staff on campus.

Newly revised Standards for Campus Credential Programs and Services

The Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) is pleased to announce the release of a new set of standards for Campus Credential Programs and Services (CCPS).

CAS, a consortium composed of over 40 collaborating professional associations representing over 115,000 professionals in higher education, has developed standards for 50 functional areas and 3 cross-functional teams, and rooted them in the scholarship and work conducted within their respective fields. These revised standards delineate expectations for practitioners and educators in related functional areas and are an update to the standards published in the 2019 CAS Professional Standards for Higher Education (10th ed).

The CAS standards committee was chaired by Dan Bureau, Louisiana State University. CAS partnered closely with the National Association of Campus Card Users (NACCU). The expert representing NACCU was Laurie Harris, Duke University.

Harris commented: “Campus credentials programs play an integral role building higher education communities and streamlining the delivery of critical campus services. The campus credential standard is an important new tool in our arsenal to help ensure these programs are as effective and efficient as possible while addressing the needs of all students and campus constituents.”

Bureau and Harris were joined by additional professionals who provided invaluable feedback on both the standards and contextual statement.
